As a commercial real estate broker, I always knew networking was important. But let's be honest—keeping in touch with everyone is challenging. Life gets hectic, and before you know it, you haven't spoken in months. I noticed I was drifting away from valuable connections. So for 2025, if you get a call, text, email, LinkedIn request or smoke signal, bear with me. I know I have work to do beyond the deal and that starts with the relationship.
The Wake-Up Call
The realization hit me during a slowdown this past year. With more free time than usual, I recognized that my communication had dropped off with key contacts. I began to think about the opportunities I missed and the partnerships that could have blossomed from a simple "hello."
I decided to reach out to a few former colleagues, suppliers, and clients. It felt awkward at first, still I knew it was time to reconnect with my network.
Simple
Reaching out doesn't have to be complicated. I sent straightforward emails to catch up, asking how their businesses were doing and sharing updates about mine. Surprisingly, many responded enthusiastically, including a former colleague who could refer business to me leading to future collaboration.
Putting It All Together
In the hustle and bustle of running a business, it's easy to overlook the importance of maintaining connections. However, by taking small, consistent steps, I found the rewards of nurturing these relationships are substantial. A simple "hello" can unlock a world of opportunities and significantly strengthen your network.
So, have you reached out to someone lately? Don't hesitate; reconnecting might just lead to your next deal!
